Hi, I'm Gen. It's Genevieve but just Gen will do.

This is my story.

​

I founded NXT Trend from a place of deep passion, proven experience, and a strong desire to build something of my own. After seven years immersed in fashion retail, I knew I was ready to step beyond my role and create a journey aligned with my values, my vision, and my belief that product strategy should be both creative and commercially powerful.

​

I have always been driven by more than performance alone, I am motivated by helping people and brands grow, innovate, and build with intention. I believe in creating product that inspires, strategies that bring clarity, and innovation that is grounded in real opportunity. Next Trend was born from that need: to support brands in thinking smarter, building better, and moving forward with clarity and confidence.

My journey began with an Honours Degree in Business Fashion Retail, a multidisciplinary qualification encompassing BCOM principles, product development, design, production, garment construction and pattern making, retail buying, retail planning, and trend forecasting. During my studies, I completed over 400 hours of practical industry experience across design, production, and start-up environments. After years of dedication and long hours, I graduated top of my class and received International Golden Key recognition, an achievement that reflected the hard work and focus I brought to my studies.

 

My professional career was ignited as a Fashion Buyer at Clothing Junction, where I spent the next seven years building deep, all-round experience across fashion retail buying and other fashion retail dimensions. Recognised early for my performance, I was fast-tracked into a senior role and ultimately progressed to Buying Manager, leading the colossal Ladieswear and Girlswear buying departments.

During this time, I was highly involved in, and deeply proud of, contributing to the growth of the business as it expanded from 50 stores to nearly 300 nationwide. My experience was multi-faceted from the get go. I worked across every stage of the product lifecycle, from product concept, range building and strategic intention to supplier management, pricing and margin strategy, retail planning, in-season trading, performance analysis, and post-season review. This end-to-end exposure gave me a sharp, commercial understanding of what truly drives results in fashion retail.

As my career evolved, my focus shifted increasingly toward trend forecasting, tailored trend application, and product innovation. Working closely with WGSN, I translated global trends into brand-right, commercially relevant seasonal direction, building unique seasonal maps and guiding product teams with clarity and confidence. A strong emphasis was placed on testing, learning, and refining product, ensuring innovation was always grounded in performance rather than assumption.

These experiences all form the foundation of NXT Trend’s core pillars : product testing and incubation, product innovation, strategy development, deep-dive performance analysis, and trend intelligence.

After years of driving results within a fast-paced, high-growth retail environment, I made the decision to step away and build something of my own — a dream I had always carried.

I am now a mom of two and my drive has only been strengthened. It has sharpened my resilience, deepened my purpose, and reinforced my all-or-nothing approach to everything I do. Motherhood has taught me balance, perspective, and courage and it continues to inspire me to build something meaningful, both for my family and for the brands I partner with. 

​

Today, through NXT Trend, I plan on fostering partnerships with fashion brands and retailers to share the insight, structure, and commercial thinking gained through years of real-world experience. My background places me in a strong position to help clients reduce risk, make informed decisions, and invest confidently in product that performs — whether they are emerging brands finding their feet or established retailers sharpening their competitive edge.
